AIDA President selected to Justice Information Sharing Practitioners Network Board
Through its strong commitment to inclusion and outreach, JISPnet gained representation of American Indian practitioners on the JISP board and general membership. The JISPnet Board welcomed Ada Pecos Melton an enrolled citizen of the Pueblo of Jemez and President of American Indian Development Associates (AIDA) at its April 2007 quarterly Board meeting in Sacramento, CA. Also joining were representatives from four New Mexico Pueblos—Acoma, Isleta, Laguna, and Zuni. The JISP-Tribal collaboration is an unprecedented effort to work on mutual goals for networking and improving practitioner information sharing and data exchange systems.
The AIDA President states that “the voice of Indian Country constituents is important and needing to be heard to enable local and state governmental agencies to understand the unique issues and needs tribal practitioners face when building and implementing effective information sharing systems for internal and external use. Through our personal involvement on the JISPnet we not only hope to learn new strategies to build integrated information systems, but to also educate our non-Indian local and state government counterparts about Indian nations and their tribal justice enterprises.”
The Justice Information Sharing Practitioners Network (JISPnet) exists today as a group of committed justice information systems practitioners from various projects and jurisdictions across the nation that work together to help facilitate communication and assistance among project and program managers.
The JISPnet welcomes tribal participation on an equal basis as members and Board representatives, which is an element often missing from organizations receiving funds on behalf of Tribes or tribal programs. JISPnet encourages its newest constituents throughout Indian Country to join by applying online.
