Tribal Criminal History Improvement Project
™
The Western Pueblos’ Consortium (WPC) is comprised of three northwestern New Mexico (NM) Pueblos—Acoma, Laguna and Zuni, which have joined to address crime, juvenile delinquency, violence and victimization issues of mutual interest specifically to improve public safety and protection in their respective communities and address the overlapping and shared jurisdictional issues that arise. The purpose of the WPC Tribal Criminal History Records Improvement Program (TCHRIP) is to improve each member Pueblos’ public safety needs by enhancing the quality, completeness and accessibility of criminal history record information systems. These systems will enable access to criminal information history for criminal justice and non-criminal justice purposes for background checks by tribal, state, and federal government and non-governmental agencies. This program will build the capacity of the three Pueblos to exchange information internally, with other Indian nations, and to participate in national information systems.
The TCHRIP is a collaborative effort between the WPC member Pueblos tribal courts and law enforcement agencies, with administrative support provided by American Indian Development Associates (AIDA). Several partners also support the CHRI Program and include the NM Crime Data Project Advisory Committee (PAC) the NM Supreme Court Administrative Offices of the Court (AOC) Judicial Information Division (JID); the NM Motor Vehicle Department (MVD); the NM Department of Public Safety (DPS) National Criminal History Program (NCHIP); the Laguna Industries Inc. (LII), a tribal corporation; and two non-profits, the SEARCH Group, Inc. and the NM Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women, Inc. (CSVANW), and a small Indian owned business, Val-Tech & Associates, Inc.
The TCHRIP is funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics.
