Training Overview

The co-hosts, the Association of Village Council Presidents & the American Indian Development Associates, LLC (AIDA) are pleased to announce the Alaska Tribal Court Code Development Training being held on October 4-6, 2017 at the Yupiit Piciryarait Cultural Center Kuskokwim Campus, University of Alaska, Kuskokwim Campus.

This training is made possible through funding from the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services, Tribal Justice Support, which makes it available at no cost or tuition free to participants.

The Training goal is to provide practical knowledge and skills that Alaska Native Tribes can use to develop and write tribal laws, codes, ordinances, statutes, court rules, and policies and procedures, and engage in intergovernmental relations and agreements.

The training will focus on:

  • Development of tribal laws needed to initiate single, regional or intertribal court systems

  • Improve the administration of tribal justice.

  • Gain participant feedback to identify the strengths and weakness of the curriculum used during the training sessions.

  • Individuals that work for tribes or organizations serving Alaskan Natives, Tribes or citizens.

Register early, seating is limited to the first 30 people who register. Registration is limited to Alaska Tribal Governments or Individuals working for tribes or organizations serving Alaskan Natives, Tribes or citizens. Please limit your registration to two (2) people per tribe in order to accomodate all the tribes in the region.

Registration Fee: No Cost

College Credit (CC): Optional, $60 per person (CC Registration will occur on-site and is provided by the University of Alaska). Participants must attend the entire training in order to receive college credit.
